Who we are looking for?

  • Location: Head office - North Ryde, NSW / Hybrid working
  • Position: FT (4 - 5 days)

This role is within the broader International Programs team and is an opportunity to for you to step into a leadership position using your experience and subject matter knowledge in disaster management to advance and expand our organisations’s response to humanitarian crises including natural disasters, fragile states, and building locally-led resilience to the impacts of climate change. We will rely on you to develop and lead response strategies and provide technical expertise to build our knowledge both within TAI and with our local Christian partners. You will have oversight of all aspects of disaster management programs including budgets, programs designs, partnership development, and compliance. You will represent TAI/BWA in external forums and alliances support local Christian partners to deliver agreed objectives, and collaborate across the organisation to support fundraising strategies.

You will be experienced in International Development with specific experience in disaster management, climate change adaptation, resilience, and/or DRR programs. This role will manage a DM Co-Ordinator who will work closely with you as you develop response strategies and partnerships when a crisis occurs.

Desired Skills and Experience

You will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications: undergraduate and/or post-graduate degree in International Development, International Studies, Political Science, Sociology, Anthropology, Human Geography or related disciplines
  • A minimum of 5 years international development experience
  • Specific experience in coordinating and/or implementing disaster management, climate change adaptation, resilience, and/or DRR programs
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, administer and control budgets
  • Experience with cross-cultural communications and working with local implementing partners (including faith-based organisations)
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to networking, relationship building and partnerships, especially in the Australian NGO and development sector
  • An understanding of compliance issues and requirements in the community development sector specifically ACFID and DFAT accreditation,
  • An authentic Christian, with strong commitment to the values, vision and mission of the Baptist Church, and willingness to participate in prayers and biblical reflection sessions

Ideally you will also have:

  • Management experience, including ability to mentor and direct junior staff and consultants
  • Technical writing expertise for grant applications
  • Knowledge and expertise in any of the following areas: climate change adaptation and mitigation, church-based partnerships, DRR, and safeguarding
  • Experience in delivering capacity building and adult learning
