ABOUT US
As a special initiative of the UN Secretary-General, the United Nations (UN) Global Compact is a call to companies everywhere to align their operations and strategies with ten universal principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. The mandate of the UN Global Compact is to guide and support the global business community in advancing UN goals and values through responsible corporate practices.
Locally, the Global Compact Network Australia (GCNA) brings together signatories to the UN Global Compact, including more than 35 ASX 100 companies and other major corporates, non-profits and universities, to advance the private sector’s contribution to sustainable development through the universal framework provided by the UN-mandated Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Ten Principles. We lead, enable and connect business and stakeholders to create a sustainable future by supporting businesses to act responsibly and helping them find opportunities to drive positive business outcomes.
HELP US DELIVER THE SDGs IN AUSTRALIA
The SDGs are the collective plan of global commitments required to end extreme poverty and hunger, tackle climate change and create a more peaceful, just, and equitable world by 2030. This is a significant multi-stakeholder effort which cannot be delivered by governments and civil society alone. The actions, innovations and finances of the private sector are critical to our ability to deliver.
This is where the UN Global Compact comes in: we are the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative with over 13,000 participating companies in 163 countries, and 70 Local Networks around the world. We enable and support companies across all sectors, geographies and sizes in their efforts to be more responsible and sustainable, and help the world achieve the SDGs.
Today fully 84% of participating companies have activities to advance the SDGs. However, the world needs more ambition and scale from the private sector: only 39% of companies have corporate goals aligned to societal or environmental needs; only 46% of companies have aligned their strategy to societal or environmental needs; and only 37% are designing business models to meet societal or environmental needs.
We are an ambitious team, energised behind our mission of mobilising a global movement of responsible companies and organisations to create the world we want. Our ambition is to accelerate and scale the global collective impact of business by upholding the Ten Principles and delivering the SDGs through accountable companies and ecosystems that enable change.
We are looking for someone to help lead in this impact in Australia where there is enormous opportunity to achieve the SDGs.
