About This Opportunity

To provide high quality student administration services and academic administrative support for the Law School’s Pro Bono Centre.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinate the Pro Bono Roster, including student application and selection process, liaison with pro bono partners and the development of new pro bono opportunities.
  • Coordinate and administratively support the Barrister Assistance Team, the Law & Education Outreach Program and other pro bono programs, as required.
  • Screen applicants for LAWS5180, Clinical Legal Education.
  • Conduct pro bono orientation sessions for students each semester.
  • Regularly evaluate pro bono activities, including seeking feedback from students and pro bono partners.
  • Report on a periodic basis to the Pro Bono Centre Director and Advisory Board on overall activities and trends.
  • Be the primary contact point for student, staff and stakeholder enquiries.
  • Support the public profile of the Centre, including by drafting and updating website and newsletter content.
  • Speak and/or attend on behalf of Centre at public engagements promoting student pro bono activities.
  • Maintain Pro Bono Centre policies and procedures for effective Centre, staff and volunteer coordination.
  • Any other duties as reasonably directed by your supervisor.

  • The University’s Code of Conduct.
  • Requirements of the Queensland occupational health and safety (OH&S) legislation and related OH&S responsibilities and procedures developed by the University or Institute/School.
  • The adoption of sustainable practices in all work activities and compliance with associated legislation and related University sustainability responsibilities and procedures.
  • Requirements of the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000, the National Code 2007 and associated legislation, and related responsibilities and procedures developed by the University.
  • Other duties, consistent with the level of appointment in the job family concerned, as directed by the Director, UQ Pro Bono Centre.

About You

  • Qualifications and training equivalent to an undergraduate degree in business administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Experience in an administration role, preferably in a tertiary education institution or a community service organisation.
  • Experience in recruitment, coordination, support and recognition of volunteers.
  • High level computer proficiency in relation to word processing, database management and spreadsheets.
  • Demonstrated high level written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of University policies and procedures in relation to student matters, or capacity to rapidly acquire such knowledge.
  • A strong orientation to the provision of a high level of customer service.
  • Empathy and ability to communicate with students, including those with disabilities and from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to set own priorities, monitor work processes, meet regular deadlines, initiate and take follow up action.
  • Commitment to upholding the University’s values, and with the outstanding personal qualities of openness, respectfulness and integrity.

Organisational Relationships

The position reports to the Director, UQ Pro Bono Centre.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time continuing position at HEW Level 5.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $72,212- $80,430 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $84,488 - $94,103 per annum.
