About the Role

This role is a casual position based in Fairfield.

This role is focused on building and sustaining strong, positive relationships with the communities to identify and address the barriers to children who experience disadvantage and vulnerability accessing quality early childhood education.

As the Community Development Worker you will be specifically responsible for:

  • Developing effective strategies to increase the capacity of communities and services to respond more effectively to children who experience disadvantage and vulnerability that prevent access to quality early childhood education
  • Consult with the community and key stakeholders to identify needs and contribute to the development of innovative strategies
  • Develop and refine strategies to reach those experiencing marginalisation due to social, economic, cultural or other factors
  • Organise, coordinate and promoting activities in the Fairfield local government areas that increase the value of early childhood education
  • Connect families and community with services with Fairfield Links to Early Learning and provide support to parents taking part in Fairfield Links to Early Learning
  • Develop partnerships with relevant services providers

About the You

  • Qualifications in Community Services and/or equivalent experience with in the community development field
  • Fluency in Vietnamese and/or Arabic (highly desirable)
  • Demonstrated commitment to provision of services to socio economically disadvantaged families, children and communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to consult and work in partnership with the community and local services
  • Ability to plan, facilitate and evaluate project goals and desired outcomes in partnership with stakeholders using strengths based approach.
  • Verbal and written communication skills of a high standard.
  • Ability to work flexible hours (including some weekends as necessary) to meet the needs of the community as required.
  • Sound knowledge of the Fairfield LGA area and the issues facing these communities.
  • Ability to manage competing goals and to deliver outcomes under minimal supervision.
  • A demonstrated passion for social change and contributing to an organisation of influence for the most disadvantaged
