The Rowden White Library is a recreation library run by UMSU with a diverse collection of contemporary books, e-books, comics, DVDs, magazines and music. Special collections include romance, science fiction/fantasy and crime/mystery novels.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Working with UMSU staff and elected student representatives and operating under the general direction of the Rowden White Library Coordinator, this position is accountable for providing exceptional library customer service to students and staff of the University of Melbourne.

Your Key Accountabilities will include:

  • Ability to engage with and answer a range of Library enquiries, including providing advice on the collection and information on Library policies, and to present this information to any Library tours as required;
  • Oversee the closing of the Library each evening, ensuring the security of the Library facilities;
  • Work closely with the Library’s automated systems in the performing of tasks pertaining to the lending of library materials, book returns, holds and the accurate recording of new patron details;
  • Provide instruction to Library patrons in their use of the Library’s resources including photocopying, printing, scanning, internet use, computer games, word processing, binding and laminating services. Plus, provide trouble-shooting when required, with major problems to be reported;
  • Participate in the continued physical care of the collection, identifying materials in need of mending or removal, covering and processing of new acquisitions, undertaking shelving duties, whilst always being mindful of the overall security of the Library’s resources.

ABOUT YOU

To succeed in this position, you will have made progress towards, or completed, a Certificate III in Library and Information Studies; or a relevant combination of skills knowledge and/or training with eligibility to join professional organisation ALIA.

Essential to your success will be demonstrated knowledge of interpreting and applying library guidelines, practices and procedures, and a proven track record in helpful and friendly customer service alongside reliable and accurate data management. You will have sound general knowledge and a keen interest in contemporary and popular culture. A valid Working with Children Check is also required.

You are a friendly, helpful, reliable and methodical professional able to help students get more out of their time at the University.

This is a part time fixed term (17.5 hrs per week x 26 weeks) with a starting base salary of $68,563.25 (pro-rata) plus superannuation.
