About the role

Aboriginal Family Led Decision Making (AFLDM) brings together family, Elders, and key individuals to make decisions about the safety and well-being of Aboriginal children involved in the Child Protection system.

As an AFLDM Convenor, your role focuses on protecting Aboriginal children by engaging families, promoting cultural practices, and strengthening community ties. You will co-convene AFLDM meetings with Elders and the DFFH Convenor, support families in decision-making, implement case plans, and ensure accurate documentation and reporting.

About You

The role involves building and maintaining connections with Aboriginal agencies, government bodies, and community organisations while participating in training, team meetings, and case planning. It includes working collaboratively across VACCA programs, promoting Aboriginal Family Led Decision Making (AFLDM) as a core practice in Child Protection, and partnering with the DFFH AFLDM Convener to ensure culturally relevant support.

Additionally, the role oversees the monitoring and evaluation of the AFLDM program, fosters reflective practices for cultural learning, and collaborates with community service organisations and Child Protection to deliver sustainable and effective services for Aboriginal children and young people.

Requirements: 

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work or diploma in Community Services, or a desire to complete formal qualifications with significant industry experience.
  • You must have and continue to hold a full Victorian Driver’s Licence, a current employment Working with Children Check card and a clear National Police Check.
  • Current COVID-19 vaccination (including booster dose, as applicable), a Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence.
