About the role

The Redress Support Service is funded by the Federal government to provide assistance and support to survivors of institutional child sexual abuse going through the journey of seeking redress through the National Redress Scheme.

As Case Review and Application support worker you will be part of a small team responding to the needs of Aboriginal people who wanting to apply for redress. You will provide support to the Ngarra Jarra Noun Support workers by applying for and summarising records held by both government and non government department and finalising the NRS application form by integrated the information contained in the clients file with the client statement of child sexual abuse as obtained by the Ngarra Jarra Noun Support staff.

About You

  • Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the values that underpin VACCA’ vision and purpose and the capacity to take a leadership role in championing these internally and externally
  • Demonstrated awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures, and commitment to continually build knowledge of such, along with a high level of awareness of the key issues which impact upon Aboriginal communities
  • Demonstrated experience in working and engaging with Aboriginal families and children/ Demonstrated experience in child and family sector
  • Understanding and awareness of Aboriginal communities and issues facing Aboriginal children and families today particularly intergenerational impacts of past government policies especially removal policies that led to the Stolen Generations
  • An ability to empathise with people’s experiences of sexual abuse and an understanding of complex trauma, intergenerational trauma and community trauma grief and loss
  • Current COVID-19 vaccination
