About the Victorian Healthcare Association

The Victorian Healthcare Association (VHA) is the peak body supporting Victoria’s public health services to deliver high-quality care. Established in 1938, the VHA provides a unified voice for Victoria’s diverse public healthcare sector, including public hospitals, aged care, and community health services.

The VHA advocates on behalf of its members on sector-critical issues by engaging and influencing key decision-makers involved in policy development and system reform. About the role

Reporting to the General Manager – Communications and Engagement, you will:

  • be responsible for providing event management, implementation, and specialist advice to develop and support the delivery of professional, safe, and high-quality events and the achievement of the VHA’s engagement initiatives and objectives
  • lead a wide range of events designed to engage a variety of audiences, including VHA members, health sector and government stakeholders, and partners
  • deliver high-quality in-person and web-based meetings, events, and forums
  • coordinate all logistical aspects of both internal and external event delivery, from event conception, on-the-day delivery, and collecting and preparing feedback from participant
  • support and maintain relationships with members, staff, consultants, government departments and other outside organisations who contribute to the VHA’s events and engagement activities.

About you

You have strong attention to detail with a focus on customer service, creativity, collaboration, member engagement and communication. You possess excellent communication and relationship-building skills, that enable effective engagement and leadership of a range of marketing, member engagement, meetings and professional development events. You are a team player with a collaborative mindset and are aligned to the vision, purpose and values of the VHA with a member-centric focus.

Selection criteria

Essential:

  • A demonstrated ability to lead and manage the production and operational elements of events within strict timelines and to high standards.
  • Ability to attend, host and facilitate various events, forums and meetings and to build networks.
  • Experience sourcing quotations and managing event and project budgets to ensure financial parameters are met.
  • A capability to source and support speakers, and lead event volunteers and support staff to deliver high-quality events.
  • Development of communications and marketing materials to promote events.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to form strong relationships, negotiate, and influence.
  • Experience in conducting post-event evaluation and development of reporting and analysis that can be used to determine the effectiveness of each event.
  • Use of industry best practices to initiate continuous improvement of event practices and procedures.
  • An ability to assess and document risks and issues and develop and negotiate strategies and solutions to effectively manage risks.
  • Ability to build excellent working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders and respond to stakeholder requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and flexibly, as well as cooperatively as part of a team.

Desirable:

  • Tertiary qualifications in event management, marketing, communications, or related field.
  • Prior experience in events management and/or stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience working for or with a peak membership or advocacy body.
