GWAHS is seeking a passionate and self-motivated Aboriginal Family Partnership Worker to join the Australian Nurse Family Partnership Program team in Western Sydney. This includes working in a strengths based, sustained home visiting program providing support to families from the antenatal period to their child’s second birthday.

About the Role

The ANFP Home Visiting Program involves Aboriginal Family Partnership Workers and Nurses visiting indigenous women and their families identified for the ANFP program to provide comprehensive community health nursing services. The home visiting begins during the antenatal period and continues until the child is 2 years old.

The Family Partnership Worker will work closely with the Home Visiting Nurses and the identified families to ensure the effective operation of the program. The Family Partnership Worker will accompany Home Visiting Nurses on their visits to families. The Family Partnership Worker will have a liaison role with other agencies and organisations to support family's wellbeing.

The ANFP Program is based on the evidence based Nurse-Family Partnership model developed by David Olds in the United States, and will closely follow that program.

Dimensions of the Position

The position reports directly to the Team Leader ANFPP (Nurse Supervisor) and is based in Mount Druitt NSW.

Essential Criteria

  • Aboriginality
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to communicate with local Aboriginal people
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to Aboriginal culture and history, and current issues affecting the lives of Aboriginal people
  • Knowledge and understanding of the issues that impact on Aboriginal people and Aboriginal communities
  • Experience in the provision of social support services
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Willingness to undertake professional training
  • Display an understanding of the individuals rights to determine their own path in life
  • Current drivers licence
  • Understanding of EEO, WHS, EAPS and Ethical works practices and the ability to implement and model these standards within the workplace

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in community participation
