About the Role

We are seeking a Workplace Development Officer to join our team of dedicated and passionate people who want better employment outcomes for young people aged 17 - 21 with disability.

The Workplace Development Officer builds and maintains mutually beneficial relationships with external stakeholders with the aim of sourcing appropriate and tailored work experience opportunities and work placements for participants of The ORCA Project.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Align one's workplace behaviour in accordance with the WMQ Model of Care, the Wesley Charter and Wesley Mission Queensland's Vision, Mission and Values.
  2. Adopt a strengths-based perspective to assist participants with disability to meet their identified needs.
  3. Connect with business and organisations within the local community to develop opportunities for work site visits, work experience and employment opportunities for participants.
  4. Positively represent The ORCA Project and WMQ in the community.
  5. Develop competencies incorporating Active Support Practices to assist participants to develop skills that will enable them to be job ready.
  6. Provide training and skill development to work experience hosts and potential employers.
  7. Work with Employment Coaches to gain an understanding of the individual work needs of participants in the program and source appropriate work experience opportunities for them.
  8. Develop and maintain strong relationships with Disability Employment Service Providers.
  9. Effectively time manage work days to ensure the full utilisation of working hours.
  10. Provide customer service that exceeds customer expectations at all times.
  11. Comply with all organisational Policy and Procedures, as well as WH&S Standards.
  12. Provide effective communication and reporting to management and stakeholders as requested.
  13. Work within the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission and NDIS requirements.
  14. Any other relevant duties as directed

WMQ is a registered NDIS provider and as an organisation has committed to abide by the NDIS Code of Conduct. Therefore as an employee of WMQ you agree to these guidelines and their requirements including legislation probity checks.

  • If your role with WMQ involves providing NDIS supports and services; WMQ pays for all current employees and all new starters across our organisation who require the NDIS Worker Screening Clearance as part of their employment with WMQ.
  • If your role with WMQ involves providing NDIS supports and services; you will be required to have obtained an NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (See here) before you commence your first shift. This requirement is in line with the 'No card, no start' – changes to disability worker screening in QLD.
  • If your role with WMQ involves providing NDIS supports and services; NDIS Worker Orientation Module 'Quality, Safety and You' is required to support compliance with the NDIS Code of Conduct. If you have not yet completed this Module, please do so now via (https://www.ndiscommission.gov.au/workers/training-course). Upload your Certificate of Completion to the “Supporting Documents” tab in your Mercury profile.
