Machine Learning Engineer

WhyHive

WhyHive is looking to hire a Machine Learning (ML) Engineer to join our mission of making data exploration easy.

Specifically, we’re looking for a software engineer who knows how to make AI/ML work in production and has a keen eye for data science rigour (e.g. picking up on and mitigating potential risks and opportunities).

About us

We started as a social enterprise consultancy back in 2018, helping nonprofits to find insights in their data. However, we noticed a significant barrier: impact-driven orgs were struggling to make data-driven decisions because it was too difficult for them to explore their own data. We kept meeting the same type of client who had a simple dataset (Excel, survey data etc.) and just wanted to find basic insights. They often had to choose between learning to use unintuitive and complex BI (business intelligence) software, or spending thousands on consulting fees.

To address this issue, we're building a user-friendly and affordable product to simplify data exploration. Our vision is to become the Canva of data and to follow in their footsteps of making our software accessible to thousands of NFPs. Want to come with us on this journey?

The role will be:

  • Full-time, but we’re big fans of flexibility so we’re open to having a conversation about what full-time means for you.
  • Hybrid WFH and in-person at our office in Collingwood, Naarm (Melbourne).

We’re looking for:

  • An ML engineer (which we define as a software engineer who knows how to make AI/ML work in production)
  • Data science know-how and rigour
  • Startup scrappiness
  • Passion for impact

You will get to:

  • Work in a fast-paced and dynamic role where you’ll get to wear many hats.
  • Have freedom to try new things, own processes and influence the stack.
  • Be both on the tools and collaborating on high-level strategy.
  • Iterate and deploy quickly, and pulling some things together with duct tape.

You can check out the job posting linked below for info about additional benefits and ways of working.

A note on diversity

Research shows that many women, gender-diverse people and people from underrepresented backgrounds only feel that they’re eligible to apply when they meet 100% of the criteria.

So we really want to make it clear: if you're interested in us, we want to hear from you.

Our goal is to connect with amazing individuals even if they don’t match 100% of the skills listed. And if we don’t quite have the right role for you now, we might have something perfect for you down the track. As such, we’d love to know who you are so we can stay in touch!
