Wyndham CEC is a not-for-profit organisation funded to deliver education and community programs and services to vulnerable young people and adults across western Melbourne. In particular, Wyndham CEC works closely with individuals from refugee backgrounds through its settlement services, community services, employment and education programs, including senior secondary education programs.
The Opportunity
An opportunity has become available at Wyndham CEC for VCE VM/VCAL/VPC Teacher/s in Literacy, Numeracy, Work Related Skills and Personal Development Skills to join our Senior Secondary Programs team at Wyndham CEC. Reporting to the Senior Secondary Education Manager, this position will meet the performance indicators set out in the teacher work plan.
As the successful candidate your responsibilities will include:
- Developing course programs building on the students’ interests, abilities, and strengths including developing and extending education and employment pathways.
- Ensuring programs are flexible in order to meet the changing and diverse needs of students.
- Teaching and assessing the course as negotiated according to the requirements set out in the VCAA VCE and VCAL / VCAA VPC Administrative Handbooks, VET training packages, and Further Education Curriculum (FE), while meeting the Skills First VET Funding Contract.
- Developing teaching strategies that reflect the varying learning needs of the students.
- Ensuring all assessments are based on the Principles of Applied Learning and are in accordance with the assessment guidelines for the accredited curriculum and/or training packages.
- Maintaining necessary records as required by the Skills First VET Funding Contract, VCAA, DET, DJSIR, and the VRQA (or other funding/regulatory bodies as directed by the Senior Secondary Education Manager), including meeting the AQTF Essential Conditions and Standards for Continuing Registration.
About You
The successful applicant will have relevant tertiary qualifications and experience teaching senior secondary students and qualifications.
Mandatory Minimum Qualifications/Experience:
- An education qualification in Bachelor or Diploma of Education as a minimum
- Proven experience teaching young people
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116); or Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110) including the units TAELLN411 & TAEASS502 or equivalent units
- Recent and relevant industry experience and professional development to ensure industry currency
- Hold (or be eligible for) Victorian Institute of Teaching registration
Selection Criteria (applications must address all selection criteria)
- Be able to operate within the vision and values of the Wyndham Community and Education Centre Inc.
- Have a strong understanding of and comply with the child-safe standards that were introduced in Victoria in July 2022.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant curriculum of VCAL/VCE VM/VPC.
- Well-developed and demonstrated teaching and assessing experience in Literacy/Numeracy/Personal Development Skills/Work Related Skills.
- Possess well-developed skills in teaching including the ability to select and use a wide range of teaching and assessment strategies to meet the needs of vulnerable students, especially those from new and emerging communities, and some experience working in this area.
- Strong organisational skills and high-level oral and written communication skills, including report writing, and the ability to independently manage time, prioritise and meet set timelines in an environment of competing priorities.
