About the Centre

At the YMCA we aim to go beyond just before and after school care, we aim to teach children skills that they will use for the rest of their life. Come and practice what you are learning at University and bring your teaching and learning skills to life.

Key Elements of the Role

OSHC educators work in a team to provide high quality care, recreation and education for primary school age children before and after school and during the holidays. OSHC educators require all sorts of skills and attributes but most of all you need to be passionate about primary school aged children and supporting them through middle childhood.

We want people with different skills to make a positive impact on our program. So if you have an interest or a skill in a certain area we want you to bring it into our program! It could be sport, dance, drama, cooking, visual art, gardening, fitness, creative writing or anything else you wish to share with children! Whatever you are interested in we want you to bring to into our program.

Selection Criteria

What will you need?

  • A passion for children and a keen interest in their development is a must.
  • A current Victorian Working with Children Check.
  • First Aid/CPR or willingness to obtain.
  • Be working towards a child related qualification: Early Childhood, Primary Education, Secondary Education, Outdoor Education, Human Movement, Youth and Community Services etc.
  • Cert III or Diploma in Children's services or Outside School Hours Care is desirable but not a must!

Qualifications

YMCA, including Boards of Directors, is committed to the safety and wellbeing of children and young people in accordance with our Safeguarding Children and Young People framework. YMCA requires that all applicants undergo satisfactory screening prior to commencement, including but not limited to:

  • A national criminal history check;
  • An international criminal history check where applicants have worked overseas;
  • Holding or obtaining a Working with Children Clearance/ equivalent in accordance with state/ territory laws;
  • ACF Safeguarding Children and Young People Certificate (completion online prior to commencement)
  • Two reference checks.

Any successfully appointed applicant will be required to adhere to the Safeguarding Children and Young People framework, which includes a thorough safeguarding children and young people induction and committing to upholding the safety and wellbeing of children and young people throughout their engagement with YMCA.
