ABOUT US 

The YMCA Vocational School is a multi-campus educational community based in Logan, North Lakes, Ipswich and Acacia Ridge.

The School is a Special Assistance School and offers courses assisting disengaged students in having a "Real Opportunity" to achieve their full potential through positive educational studies, activities and outcomes. We believe all young people have the right to achieve their full potential irrelevant of circumstance. 

POSITION 

The YMCA Vocational School is now recruiting for a Permanent Full-Time Senior Youth Worker, working 38 hours per week. The start date for this position is as soon as possible. 

In this position, you will support our teachers and students at our Moreton Bay Junior Campus, to deliver well-being programs and lead on pastoral care of our students, as well as providing guidance to the youth work team. 

THE PERSON  

The ideal applicant will be looking for a challenge, have a passion for working with young people, a strong interest in the development of the holistic person, a personal interest in health, spirituality and personal well-being.

They will also have a commitment to a client-centred approach, creative and innovative youth work practice and a commitment to ongoing professional development.  

Selection Criteria 

To be successful in the role, you will be able to meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a Certificate III or above in Youth Work. Community Services or other relevant qualification; 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with young people including the ability to communicate appropriately with young people and their families from diverse cultural backgrounds;
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and apply appropriate behaviour management strategies that contribute to the establishment and maintenance of a supportive environment;
  • Ability and commitment to working with young people using the Strengths Approach and ability to demonstrate non-judgmental, empathic framework;
  • Be able to demonstrate excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Computer literacy and prior experience using a range of office software including Word, Excel;
