Our Learning Experience Teams are integral to this vision, developing and delivering outstanding learning opportunities for teachers and students from Kinder to VCE.

Melbourne Zoo is currently seeking an innovative Education Officer to join our Learning Experiences team. In this role, the successful applicant will develop and facilitate Education for Conservation learning programs designed to enhance connections between students and wildlife, strengthen ecological understanding and knowledge and support tangible conservation action within school communities.

This team member will bring their experience of developing and facilitating student-centred learning experiences that are underpinned by inquiry or challenge based approaches and promote transformative learning. Skills in collaboration and communication with internal and external stakeholders are essential to this role, as is the ability and desire to teach across a range of developmental age levels, from kinder through to VCE and teacher professional learning.

Demonstrated teaching experience in an educational, environmental and/or cultural institution; teaching qualifications specialising in particular developmental age levels; the curriculum areas of humanities, science and /or sustainability; and knowledge or experience of values education or conservation education will be highly regarded.

The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate their suitability against the following key criteria:

  • An ability to engage with K-12 students/teachers and the flexibility to facilitate age-appropriate teaching practices
  • Knowledge of inquiry-based learning and the ability to design student-centred learning opportunities for Middle Year students (Year 3-8)
  • Skills, knowledge and experience for enhancing teaching and learning through digital technologies
  • Demonstrated teaching practice and knowledge of environmental education, EfS (Education for Sustainability) and/or conservation education (Education for Conservation)
  • An ability to work cohesively in a team and also independently
  • Strong conservation values and an ability to promote Zoos Victoria's key conservation priorities
