The Philanthropy Manager leads AAP's efforts in securing philanthropic support for our mission. This role is integral to driving the organisation's sustainability and growth by cultivating and managing relationships with donors, foundations and partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fundraising strategy and execution.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan to achieve annual and long-term revenue goals.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with individual donors, foundations and corporate donors.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to align fundraising efforts with organisational goals and priorities.

Donor Engagement:

  • Manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors, ensuring consistent engagement and personalised stewardship.
  • Develop compelling proposals, grant applications and sponsorship packages tailored to prospective donors.
  • Plan and execute donor appreciation events, recognition programs and other engagement opportunities.
  • Work with the Product Director and other editorial teams to create subject-focussed newsletters for distribution to donors and other networks.

Collaboration and Leadership:

  • Work closely with the editorial teams to create impactful campaigns and donor materials.
  • Build and maintain close working relationships with the executive team, in particular the CEO, the Head of Strategy and Public Affairs, the Editor and the Head of AAP FactCheck.
  • Serve as a key representative of the organisation in philanthropic and community networks.
  • Mentor and support team members in fundraising and donor relations activities.
  • Data Management and Reporting.
  • Maintain accurate records of donor interactions and contributions in the CRM system.
  • Analyse fundraising performance metrics and provide regular reports to the CEO and Board.
  • Stay informed on trends and best practices in nonprofit fundraising and philanthropy.

Qualifications and Skills

  • 3+ years of experience in fundraising, donor relations, or a similar role, preferably within a non-profit or media organisation.
  • Proven track record of securing major gifts and building lasting donor relationships.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to craft compelling narratives.
  • Proficiency in fundraising software/CRM systems eg Salesforce, MailChimp and data analysis.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Passion for media, storytelling and the role of journalism in driving social impact.
  • Passion for public interest journalism.
  • Strong understanding of fundraising strategies, and the ability to inspire others to support our work.
