ALRM Core Objectives
The central object of the Movement is to assist Aboriginal persons (especially those Aboriginal persons who are detained in custody or imprisoned) to relieve their poverty, the consequences of their dispossession and social misfortune and to assist further in removing destitution and helplessness amongst Aboriginal people through the use of the legal system of the State of South Australia and the Commonwealth of Australia. Key Responsibilities
- To be responsible for day-to-day management and allocation of resources within Ceduna Office.
- Promote ALRM within the Northern community
- Undertake community consultations with Aboriginal Field Officers to identify community legal education needs of the regional communities serviced by the Ceduna office.
- Raise ALRM profile within Aboriginal communities and with local stakeholders
- Ensure Ceduna expenditure remains within budget
- Ensure that all ALRM practices and services are delivered that best meet the diverse cultural and service needs of Aboriginal people(including staff members)
- Responsible for the day-to-day management of staff of the Ceduna office
- Increase best practice implementing planning and system tools e.g. annual court circuit calendars, ensuring consistency and compliance of ALRM data recording, office documents and templates.
- Role model politeness and professional communication when dealing with clients and the general public.
- To work to ensure the provision of a culturally competent and responsive service to clients.
- As part of a team provide outreach services in accordance with ALRM objectives.
- Encourage and sustain a cooperative, “can do” work environment.
- Contribute positively to organisational management and support operations towards the achievement of organisational goals and having open communication with CEO and management.
- Support and work with people with diverse backgrounds, value systems, cultural differences and special needs.
- Assist with training and mentoring of Administration/Field staff for optimum performance.
- Ensure that stocks of consumable supplies are kept under control.
- Ensure staff of ALRM comply with internal controls, Human Resources, Work Health and Safety, Finance and Administration processes.
- Responsible for Human Resources Management of the Ceduna office and to develop and delegate responsibilities relating all administration staff as required: -
- coordinating employee training as required in consultation with Adelaide Human Resource Department.
- Manage annual leave schedules for all Ceduna team
- assisting the WH&S Coordinator implementation of staff policies to ensure a safe work environment;
- assist CEO to develop/revise procedure manuals for their respective teams.
- assist CEO with clear delegation and induction of all Ceduna staff
- overseeing the provision of staff and service personnel.
- manage fleet motor vehicle
- manage Travel Allowance requests
- To undertake annual performance Appraisals with Administration staff.
- Prepare Board reports for the Ceduna office
- Perform such other duties commensurate with the functions of ALRM and this classification, as may be required.
- Other reasonable duties as instructed by the CEO/delegate.
- Actively participate and contribute to responsible and safe work practices by ensuring all WHS legislation, policies and procedures are adhered to within the workplace this includes any directive given by the Human Services department in relations to any pandemics.

Maintain Safe Work Environment
- To ensure all staff engage in safe work practices and follow all ALRM WHS Policies, Procedures and supporting documents.
- To cease work/activity immediately if the work is deemed/identified as unsafe or in breach of safety legislation.
- Take reasonable care to protect your own health and safety, and the health and safety of others who may be affected by your actions or omissions at work.
- Effective and timely reporting and ensuring you are not affected by alcohol or other drugs which are likely to endanger yourself or others.
Essential Criteria
- Demonstrated experience in office management
- Demonstrated experience in people management
- Demonstrated capacity to act strategically and exercise a high level of independent judgment and to identify performance outcomes.
- Ability to plan activities and set priorities to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
- High level communication skills including the ability to provide clear, concise and comprehensive advice both verbally and in writing, and to negotiate effectively at a senior level. Highly developed customer service skills.
- Extensive experience in Financial Systems, Microsoft Excel spread sheets and Word processing.
- Good conflict resolution skills.
- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal People/ communities/organisations/boards.
Desirable Criteria
- Certificate III or above in Business Administration or equivalent
- Knowledge of Equal Opportunity, Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare standards.
- An understanding of the objectives of Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement, its services and clients.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Organisations Core Values (Code of Ethics) and the Employee Conduct Policy.
