Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (KNAC) is the registered native title body corporate for the Nyiyaparli People with approximately 430 current members.
The Nyiyaparli People are the Traditional Owners of approximately 36,684 square kilometres of land and waters in the east Pilbara region, including the Aboriginal communities of Jigalong and Parnpajinya, several pastoral leases and significant mining operations. Locations within the Determination Area are places of particular significance to the Nyiyaparli people, including ceremonial sites, songlines, permanent pools and natural resources.
Location
This role is located at KNAC’s South Hedland office.
Position Purpose
Reporting to the Financial Wellbeing Co-ordinator, the Home Program Support Officer will assist and support KNAC members by performing accommodation management activities, that includes home purchase and tenancy aligned with the Home Program Support. This includes assistance with the completion of necessary paperwork to purchase a home, advocate, and assist in obtaining a rental property. This role will also design, develop and deliver workshops appropriate to meet and support KNAC members, including broader community workshops. You will work closely with stakeholders, including real estate agents and property managers, tradespeople, community service providers and government agencies, to facilitate housing initiatives. This role has a strong focus on quality and compliance, advocacy and case management.
Key Responsibilities
The key responsibilities of this role include:
- Assist KNAC members with necessary paperwork to purchase a home
- Advocate and assist KNAC members in obtaining a rental property
- Design, develop and deliver workshops and tools/resources to support KNAC members
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including trades such as builders, plumbers, community service providers, and government agencies
- Ensure every matter is managed with strong attention to detail and in accordance with KNAC policies and procedures
- Liaise with Real Estate Agents, Landlords, Insurance companies, and relevant stakeholders to support tenants and minimise rental and mortgage arrears, as well as tenant responsibility maintenance charges
- Follow up on necessary repairs based on building inspection reports (e.g., addressing water damage, painting, gardens)
Qualifications & Experience
Knowledge, experience and qualifications required include:
- Experience working within Nyiyaparli people
- Cultural competence and sensitivity, particularly in working with Aboriginal communities, understanding their unique housing challenges and cultural considerations.
- Demonstrated experience in providing housing-related assistance, including supporting individuals or communities in home purchase processes, rental procurement, and property management
- In-depth knowledge of local and regional housing regulations, policies, and procedures
- Strong advocacy skills and experience advocating for individuals or community members in housing matters, supporting their rights and needs to be met.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government agencies, builders, service providers and community organisations.
- Experience in providing tenant support services, including addressing maintenance issues, managing arrears and fostering positive tenant-landlord relationships.
- Proficiency in handling paperwork and documentation for housing processes, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities to address housing-related challenges and provide effective solutions.
- National Police Check and Working with Children Check (WWCC)
Desirable
- CPR Certificate (HLTAID009) or Equivalent.
- First Aid Certificate (HLTAID011) or Equivalent.
- Mental Health First Aid Certificate.
