The Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) is a not-for-profit organisation responsible for the training, assessment and continuing professional development of emergency physicians as well as the advancement of professional standards in emergency medicine in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.

The Position

We are seeking an accomplished leader to oversee the College’s strategic initiatives aimed at addressing health inequities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Māori peoples, enhancing emergency care capabilities in Low and Middle-Income Countries, and promoting meaningful cultural change both within the College and across emergency departments within Australasia.

As the General Manager of Health Equity in Emergency Care, you will lead the strategic and operational management of the Indigenous Health Unit, Global Emergency Care Unit, and the Equity and Inclusion Portfolio to achieve ACEM’s business objectives.

The successful candidate will oversee the development and execution of projects and advocacy campaigns that advance ACEM’s goals in Indigenous health, global emergency care, and equity and inclusion. Your role will include providing expert analysis and advice to College committees and the Board and representing ACEM at key internal and external forums to build strategic partnerships and influence policy. In this role, you will collaborate with other College entities to ensure organisational initiatives are implemented successfully, fostering a culture of inclusivity and excellence.

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • Qualifications in a relevant field or substantial equivalent experience, ideally at a postgraduate level.
  • A proven ability of leading strategic initiatives and advocacy campaigns that deliver measurable impact.
  • In-depth knowledge and commitment to advancing cultural safety, equity, and diversity within healthcare settings.
  • Extensive experience in leading and managing high-performing teams, with a focus on fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills, with the ability to influence and engage a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated capacity for strategic thinking and problem-solving, with a strong ability to manage complex projects and competing priorities.

This is a full-time permanent position based in West Melbourne, Australia.
