Are you committed to working for the greater good?
This is a unique opportunity to strengthen Australia’s humanitarian assistance and disaster relief overseas through greater civil-military-police engagement and understanding.
The Australian Council for international Development (ACFID) is Australia’s peak body for NGOs involved in international development and humanitarian action. ACFID has been supporting secondments to the Australian Civil-Military Centre (ACMC) since September 2009. We are seeking a self-motivated and experienced candidate to fill a permanent full-time position.
As ACFID’s Civil Society Engagement Advisor (CSEA) you will provide strategic advice to ACFID and Australian Civil-Military Centre (ACMC) management on achieving greater impact and efficiencies in engaging Australian NGOs in civil-military-police coordination. This will involve analysing current business operations and recommending proposals to the management of both organisations.
You will also assist in brokering, convening, and linking the stakeholder networks of both ACFID and the ACMC and strengthening understanding between these two stakeholder groups, in particular around the role, mandate and guiding principles of NGO engagement in humanitarian action.
You will work from the ACMC offices 3-4 days a week and the ACFID offices 1-2 days.
You will bring to the role a minimum of 5 years’ experience working in management or advisory positions in the international development, humanitarian and/or peacebuilding sectors, and a strong understanding of issues related to civil-military-police engagement, particularly in response to humanitarian crises overseas.
You will enjoy working on challenging problems and developing innovative solutions. You will have experience in providing strategic, high-level advice to senior managers on addressing organisational challenges and improving operational procedures.
You will enjoy working collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders, building effective working relationships, and acting as a conduit for diverse actors to share their perspectives.
The Australian Council for International Development (ACFID) is the peak body for Australian non-government organisations (NGOs) involved in international development and humanitarian action. Our vision is of a world where all people are free from extreme poverty, injustice and inequality and where the earth’s finite resources are managed sustainably. Our purpose is to lead and unite our members in action for a just, equitable and sustainable world.
We value diversity in the workplace and model our commitment to the values outlined in our strategic plan. ACFID is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, physical or mental disability status or national origin. Applicants will be considered based on qualifications, merit, and business need. Individuals of diverse backgrounds and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
The ACMC is an Australian Government initiative supporting the development of Australia’s civil-military-police capabilities to prevent, prepare for and respond more effectively to conflict and disasters overseas.
The ACMC works with government, civil society, and international partners, including the United Nations, to improve the outcomes of civil-military-police crisis responses in Asia and the Pacific, and globally. ACMC develops and promotes good practice in civil-military-police approaches to conflict and disaster management, where success results from the ability of personnel from all sectors to plan collaboratively, resource appropriately, and respond quickly through an integrated and joined up approach.
Taking into account ACFID’s core competencies and the required functional competencies of the role as detailed in the position description please send a 1-2 page covering letter and your Resume by filling in the online Application for Employment form at the Apply Now link.
Applicants will be shortlisted and invited to interview. Interviews can be conducted remotely at the candidate’s preference, though the successful candidate must be available to commence as soon as possible and be based Canberra.
ACFID’s preference is for the role to be 0.8-1 FTE but actual days can be negotiated based on the successful applicant’s preference. Applicants are asked to provide their preferred working arrangements within the provisions outlined, and all applicants and their preferred working hours will be considered.
Any offer of employment will require a National Police Check. To be eligible for this position you must have a legal right to work in Australia.
