Purpose of the Clinical Nurse Educator role

The Clinical Nurse Educator plays a critical role in the professional development of direct care workers, nurses, and registered nurses. This role is responsible for maintaining and advancing nursing practice, complex care skills and building the clinical competence of staff thereby ensuring safe and effective care delivery. This is a parental leave cover for 6 months. This role is a great opportunity for a skilled nurse to gain valuable experience as an educator and develop leadership in clinical practice.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands on educational support and clinical teaching to nursing and care staff as well as clinical induction for new staff.
  • Promote a high standard of evidence based clinical care to all clients, through dissemination of current best practice knowledge.
  • Contribute to regular training needs analysis and approved clinical education plans to meet requirements of Achieve Australia’s clients, including Specialist and Complex Disability Care, Chronic Disease Management, Mental Health and Palliative/End of Life Care.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in support of our Learning and Development Team in the planning and delivery of an annual calendar of professional development and clinical education activities.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Current AHPRA registration.
  • Experience in educating, mentoring and supporting staff in the workplace.
  • Sound clinical knowledge and demonstrate experience nursing care across conditions and populations and a fundamental understanding of disability rights and legislation.
  • Experience in nursing skills such as catheter insertion, PEG feeding, bowel care and medication management.
  • Demonstrate advanced written and verbal communication skills.
  • Evidence of professional leadership and updating of own clinical knowledge and competencies to ensure education and training delivery is in line with current best practice.
  • Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment or equivalent is desirable.
  • Ability to travel to various locations across Greater Sydney.
