The Family and Carer Program Worker position is responsible for delivering support services to family, friends and carers of people misusing substances across the Wellington, South Gippsland, Latrobe Valley, East Gippsland, and Baw Baw areas.
These services will be delivered by providing both individual support and group education sessions including evidence based brief interventions, structured groups, and community education programs.
The Peer Support Worker will work closely alongside the Family and Carer Program Workers while upholding ACSO values to provide direct support and connection via SAS group facilitation and promoting FCSS. This support may also involve one-on-one direct contact with participants in the community and remote service delivery (phone contact and video calls), in addition to collaborative working with Family and Carer Program Workers and other involved professionals.
The Peer Support Worker will form strong relationships with a range of professionals and services in the community to support Family and Carer Program Workers and participants of the Program with their successful engagement.
Essential: Must have a Lived Experience of substance misuse or have experience of being a carer/supporter of someone with substance misuse experience
Desirable: Peer support training and/or any relevant tertiary level qualifications however not essential.
Demonstrated alignment with ACSO’s Core Values.
Ability to confidently build rapport and have a motivating, encouraging presence.
Written and verbal communications skills.
Competence in using PC-based office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office) and internet, or able to learn
Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
Demonstrated capacity to work flexibly and possess the ability to manage competing demands.
Ability to purposefully disclose lived experience whilst being aware of and able to effectively maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
