the role – ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT ADVANCING WOMEN’S RIGHTS?

ActionAid Australia is seeking a dynamic Finance Accounting Specialist to join its Finance and Administration team to works closely with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and the Head of Programs to achieve the following objectives.

  • Support the COO in monthly and annual key financial reports preparation and lead relevant industry reporting requirements
  • manage the development and roll out of key systems improvements as part of the ActionAid (AA) Federation and presenting Bi-annual and annual financial reports to AA International as required;
  • provide exceptional leadership in program financial management and financial management support to the ActionAid Vanuatu country office and Shifting the Power Regional Hub in Suva;
  • Supervise the Program accountant and work collaboratively with Program staff to oversee high quality and timely donor financial reporting and responses; and
  • Act as 2-IC when the COO is away

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Statutory and Federation financial reporting, including ACFID and humanitarian reporting
  • Financial reporting and process improvements; including provision of regular reports to Programs team, working with the Management Accountant to prepare donor reports; preparation and submission of ANCP grants;
  • Supporting ActionAid Vanuatu and Shifting the Power Regional hub to ensure robust processes and controls are in place
  • Supporting the DFAT accreditation process
  • Supporting changes to accounting processes and systems
  • Mentor and support the Management accountant
  • Adhere to the AAA Values, Feminist Principles and AAA Team charter

the ideal candidate – what are we looking for?

  • A strong commitment to ActionAid’s mission, vision and values, including feminist leadership
  • A commitment to diversity and experience working with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Advanced experience in Excel, Q&A and Sun Systems knowledge desirable
  • Over 5 years all round accounting experience, skilled in preparation of accurate financial reports and strong reconciliation skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, computer literacy skills including ability to participate in donor meetings
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team
  • A high degree of initiative and self-drive
  • Must possess an appropriate Australian or New Zealand work visa or be eligible to apply for one.
