Fiona Carrick has recently been elected to the Legislative Assembly as a Member for Murrumbidgee. This is an exciting opportunity to join her team, working to bring about changes and improvements on key issues for Murrumbidgee and the ACT.  

Ms Carrick was elected with key ambitions that include facilities for community participation and initiatives for economic development, including:

  • Housing – increasing our stock of social and affordable homes
  • Services – retaining and attracting health professionals, teachers and police
  • Social and economic infrastructure - city maintenance and upgraded shops to foster strong social bonds and a sense of belonging to a community that attracts new businesses and jobs
  • Transparency - accountability and genuine community engagement
  • ACT Budget - reduce waste, slow the growth in debt and improve value for money. 

About the roles

We are seeking applicants with initiative and enthusiasm for serving our constituents and for managing the efficient operation of our office.

We have multiple positions and need people who love:

  • policy advice and Assembly business
  • collaborating with community groups and responding to enquiries from the electorate
  • communicating what we do with the electorate.

Specific roles and responsibilities will be discussed with successful candidates.

They could include:

  • conduct policy research, write briefs and provide strategic advice
  • liaise with government, community, and all stakeholders
  • support parliamentary work, including scrutiny of legislation and speech writing
  • manage correspondence and first point of contact for constituents who contact the office, by phone, email or in person
  • engage directly with the ACT community through community events, mobile offices, phone calls, doorknocking
  • support constituents to navigate a range of issues
  • monitor media and draft press releases, opinion pieces, newsletters and website and social media content
  • effective office administration and operations including diary management, maintaining adequate records, finances and expenditure, office equipment and supplies and adherence to office policies and procedures.

Selection Criteria

The ideal applicants should possess the following skills and experience:

  • excellent communications skills, both oral and written
  • great customer service attitude and ability to respond to written correspondence quickly and accurately on a broad range of issues
  • sound judgement
  • broad knowledge of ACT Government structures and policies
  • ability to work to tight deadlines, plan, organise and prioritise work under pressure
  • highly motivated and able to work proactively, both independently and in a small team
  • demonstrated professional integrity and the ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality
  • previous experience working in a similar role is desired but not essential.

What We Offer

Positions are offered under the LAMS ACT and conditions are outlined in the LAMS EA.  Competitive remuneration will be agreed with preferred candidates to reflect experience and skill level. Positions are available at:

  • Adviser Level 1 ($77,499 - $96,724 + allowances + super)
  • Adviser Level 2 ($110,708 – $121,533 + allowances + super)
  • Senior Adviser Level 1 ($130,392 – $143,241 + allowances + super)

Full time, part time and flexible hours available.
