ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a dynamic Communications Officer to join our team. Your role will be critical in developing and implementing AFOPA’s Communications Strategy and communications plans for specific campaigns and events. This is a .6 FTE position.

We are seeking someone who is passionate about human rights and has a background in communications or marketing. The ideal candidate is a talented communicator who excels in crafting compelling messages and engaging with diverse audiences.
key responsibilities
- Develop and implement AFOPA’s Communication Strategy
- Develop and implement communication plans for AFOPA campaigns and events
- Create and distribute engaging content across various platforms including media releases, newsletters, social media and the AFOPA website
- Monitor social media and distribute posts/articles/videos in a timely manner to stakeholders and different audiences
- Create visually appealing and effective communication materials
- Develop and implement communication plans to increase AFOPA memberships and donations.
- Co-ordinate the Media Response volunteer group.
required qualifications and skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism or Marketing
- Strong interpersonal and networking skills that build and maintain respectful relationships and engender trust
- High level of strategic thinking and creativity with the ability to develop innovative communication solutions
- Excellent writing, editing and proof-reading skills with attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organisational and project management skills
- Capability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Adeptness to work under pressure
- Sound knowledge of platforms, especially social media and communication tools.
- Ability to lead volunteers.
