Aspendale Gardens Community Service Inc. (AGCS) is a not-for-profit organisation run by a voluntary Board of Management.

We provide a comprehensive range of quality services for our community with a wide range of activities for adults, youth and children. Children’s services include 3 and 4-year-old kindergarten, basketball, playgroup and various community development programs.

The Board of Management oversees the strategic direction of AGCS and the Kindergarten. The Board of Management employ and work closely with the Centre Manager, staff and community to deliver the strategic and business planning direction of the Centre.

Community Centre at the heart of Aspendale Gardens

Community Centres provide safe, inclusive and accessible spaces for the community. The people and organisations that deliver regular activities and special events enrich and help residents to enjoy the services as individuals and as a community. This role primarily focuses on ensuring the ongoing wellbeing of the business and staff who deliver these life enriching services to the community.

This role will be based at the Aspendale Gardens Community Centre. We offer flexible work options; however, most days are required to be at the centre. Renumeration is in line with Neighbourhood Houses and Adult Community Education Centres’ Collective Agreement 2018 (NHACE Agreement) Level 8.1.

What will you do?

As the Centre Manager, you will:

  • Network face to face and online with the community and our relevant sectors to network. Understanding the different stakeholder needs and how that relates to the services we are offering will be vital to your success.
  • Manage the team for success: You'll take the lead for a current team of 5 direct reports and 9 indirect reports who work providing services to our community. Success will come from being a hands-on leader who can motivate, plan and execute effectively.
  • Take control of the financial planning, payroll and management of the centre with the assistance of the Treasurer (volunteer on the Board of Management). Successfully maintaining a balanced financial position will be your motivator.
  • Support the function of the Board with updates, support and guidance in the management of the centre and lead operational decision making. Success will come from an increase in new programs and benefits to the community.
  • Take charge of the workplace management and provide guidance to the whole organisation on employee relations. Successfully managing staff with the assistance of our employee relations partner and advisors.
  • Identify and manage grant submission and funding.
  • Work collaboratively with the Kindergarten Nominated Supervisor and provide line-management support to ensure collaborative working relationships between the office and Kindergarten.
  • Work with the IT providers to ensure appropriate technology solutions are in play to effectively run and execute the centre services. Success will be achieving a seamless customer and employee experience.

About You

  • Relevant tertiary or postgraduate qualification in Community Services, Welfare/Health, Counselling, Education, or a related discipline
  • Not-for-Profit management experience - 3yrs+
  • Strong people management skills; industrial awards application and resolution and mediation skills
  • A highly resilient team player who is also able to work autonomously
  • Strong financial management including in securing grants, compliance, funding and acquittals
  • Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills that help you to network effortlessly
  • Strong project management skills to be able to effectively plan and manage initiatives that deliver strategic outcomes on budget and within specified timeframes

Additional requirements

AGCS is committed to Child Safety and has zero tolerance for child abuse. We want all children and young people to be safe, happy and empowered.

The successful applicant will be required to hold a Working with Children Check and complete regular Child Safety training with a good working knowledge of the Child Safety Standards and leading in this space, as well as a Police check.
