The Role

Are you a creative digital communicator who wants to drive social change? The Communications Coordinator (VIC) will play a pivotal role in growing and engaging our supporter base. You’ll be responsible for managing and creating compelling content for social media, blogs, and email campaigns, ensuring alignment with our mission to protect animals and the planet.

Key Responsibilities

Social Media & Digital Engagement

• Develop and implement a content calendar for AJP Victoria’s social media channels.
• Create, schedule, and publish engaging social media content, ensuring alignment with AJP’s messaging.
• Monitor, respond to, and engage with the AJP online community to foster meaningful discussions.
• Track and analyse social media performance to improve reach and engagement.
• Support digital campaigns to increase membership, donations, and supporter engagement.

Content Creation & Blog Writing

• Draft, edit, and publish blog posts that align with AJP’s campaigns and priorities.
• Work with AJP leadership and volunteers to develop stories that educate, inspire, and mobilise supporters.
• Maintain a consistent tone of voice that aligns with AJP’s values and vision.

Email Marketing & Supporter Communications

• Write and distribute email blasts to supporters, updating them on campaigns, events, and opportunities to get involved.
• Manage email lists, ensuring segmentation for targeted messaging.
• Analyse email performance metrics and refine strategies for increased engagement.

General Communications Support

• Assist with press releases, newsletters, and supporter updates.
• Work with AJP volunteers and regional groups to ensure consistent messaging.
• Collaborate with the Victorian State Committee on digital strategies and campaign messaging.

About You

You are a creative and proactive digital communicator with a passion for animal protection and justice. You have strong writing, storytelling, and digital engagement skills, and are excited to grow and mobilise AJP’s online community.

• You have experience managing social media and digital communications for an organisation, political party, or advocacy campaign.
• You are an exceptional writer, able to craft persuasive and engaging content across various platforms.
• You thrive in a fast-paced environment and can juggle multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
• You understand how to track engagement metrics and use data to refine content strategies.

You align with AJP’s mission and values, advocating for animals, people, and the planet.

Key selection criteria

• Demonstrated commitment to the Animal Justice Party’s values (Kindness | Equality | Rationality | Non-Violence).
• Experience in social media management, including content creation and audience engagement.
• Strong writing and editing skills, with experience in blog writing, email campaigns, or similar content.
• Ability to develop and execute digital strategies that increase engagement and drive supporter action.
• Strong time management skills, with the ability to work independently and prioritise competing tasks.

Desirable experience

• Experience using email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, NationBuilder).
• Basic graphic design skills (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite).
• Experience working in a political, advocacy, or nonprofit environment.
• Familiarity with website content management systems (e.g., WordPress, NationBuilder).
• Understanding of SEO and digital advertising.
