* Identified position for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
This position is a fantastic opportunity to amplify ALCA’s work to design and deliver events and other programs to ensure broad, culturally safe and inclusive participation by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and genuine two way learning. The First Nations Access and Engagement Manager is responsible for working with the ALCA team to ensure that ALCA’s annual flagship conference and other relevant events and programs are designed to make them culturally safe and accessible.
The Manager will work with ALCA staff to build and strengthen connections with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and any other First Nations people, and identify opportunities to broaden and deepen participation in ALCA-led events. The Manager will continue our evaluation of the successes, challenges and learnings of ALCA’s access and engagement strategy and identify opportunities to improve how ALCA and the land conservation sector run such events and programs.
You will be passionate about caring for Country, and have the ability to use your cultural competency to connect, understand and create safe spaces for First Nations people and communities. You will have excellent communication skills and be able to build and maintain respectful relationships across diverse stakeholders including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander groups, government, business and non-government organisations.
The Australian Land Conservation Alliance is the peak national body representing organisations that work to conserve, manage, and restore nature on privately managed land. We represent our members and supporters to grow the impact, capacity, and influence of private land conservation to achieve a healthy and resilient Australia. We recognise that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are uniquely placed to carry out and partner in this work, through building on tens of thousands of years of knowledge and continuing to hold a place at the cutting edge of caring for Country.
We are a small, flexible and nimble organisation. Working with ALCA represents a unique opportunity to work across a broad and diverse sector implementing meaningful policy change, driving investment and building sector capability that will have lasting impact for nature.
