The Department

The Nursing Education Department is committed to providing excellence in education for all nurses. Our overall goal is to act as a support and resource to Nursing Services through the provision of educational activities that support enrolled, undergraduate, registered and postgraduate nurses to provide outstanding nursing care and service. In this dynamic environment, we are constantly exploring new and innovative approaches to education and relationships that will enhance Nursing Services continuous service improvement and development and meet organisational priorities

The Position Summary

The Deputy Director of Nursing – Education, Advanced Practice and Professional Development is a key leadership member of the Alfred Health Nursing Services team and is responsible for the development, ongoing review and delivery of the Nursing Leadership programs, the Advanced Practice Nurse Education program and the development and delivery of programs to external partners and other professional development programs across Alfred Health and beyond.

The role will collaborate extensively with internal stakeholders as well as externally with our sector peers and partners to explore innovative educational practices and opportunities for the delivery of these programs. As a member of the Nursing Executive, the position will work closely with the members to pursue the goals of the nursing operational plan and the nursing professional practice framework

As a member of the Nursing Executive, the position works closely with the Directors of Nursing, DDONs, Clinical Service Directors, DDON’s Operations and Nurse Managers.

Skills and Qualifications Required

  • Currently registered as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA
  • Relevant Master’s qualification in education, health, leadership, management or equivalent
  • Substantial experience in education and leadership
  • Comprehensive understanding and experience in delivering proactive education initiatives for nursing workforce challenges within a tertiary teaching hospital
