The National Mental Health Consumer Alliance (NMHCA) is the national peak body advocating for the rights of people with lived experience of mental health challenges. We are looking for an experienced Communications Manager who will ensure our policy positions are communicated widely and professionally across Australia.
Key responsibilities
- Set up and coordinate a regular national communications network comprising communications managers from our member organisations
- Establish branding guidelines for NMHCA, and implement them across the organisation in policy submissions, website, newsletters
- Lead the organisation’s public communications activities particularly online
- Write and send regular email newsletters
- Be a point of contact with journalists
Attributes we're looking for
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in a related discipline (communications, marketing, public relations etc.) and/or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.
- It is a genuine occupational qualification of this position to have a lived experience of mental health/social and emotional wellbeing issues and recovery in accordance with section 66(s)(c) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984.
- Excellent written communication skills, including demonstrated ability to develop and contribute to high-quality written materials such as website content, social media content, and email newsletter content.
- Excellent attention to detail, particularly in formatting Word documents and correcting spelling/grammar in communications content.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a Wordpress website, create and send MailChimp newsletters, and update common social media sites on behalf of a nonprofit / social justice organisation.
- Demonstrated understanding of branding as it applies to a nonprofit / social justice organisation.
- Demonstrated understanding of the mental health sector and/or the consumer movement and experience utilising lived experience of mental health challenges to bring about change.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships including working with mental health consumer representatives and journalists.
- Demonstrated supervision, coordination and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated planning and organisational skills, especially in relation to meeting deadlines and managing competing priorities.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills to develop strategies, ideas and opportunities for resolving issues.
