Hospitality Employment Mentor

All Things Equal

All Things Equal is a work-integrated social enterprise that exists to bridge the gap between people with disability and the wider community. We provide purposeful training and award-wage employment in hospitality-based settings. We run a flagship cafe in Balaclava, a cooking school, a footy club canteen, and have a catering offering that we are super proud of.

As we mature, our purpose evolves, and our focus is now on implementing an Employment Pathway model; to act as a stepping stone towards mainstream employment, providing our employees with disability the skills, confidence, and independence to live a life with purpose. To achieve this purpose, we are evolving the ways in which support is provided in the workplace.

To build our trainees towards the next step in their careers, we provide on the job support in two stages:

  1. Hospitality Trainers provide structured training and support within All Things Equal commercial environments, ensuring our trainees understand the demands of the real world of work.
  2. Upon transitioning to mainstream employment settings beyond All Things Equal, the Hospitality Employment Mentor will provide hands-on job support in external settings, ensuring both the individual and the employer feel fully supported for a successful working relationship.

All Things Equal is developing the next generation of disability employment. We're working with some of the best hospitality businesses in the industry and we're on the lookout for individuals that are energised, ambitious and genuinely want to change people's lives.

The Hospitality Employment mentor is key to the evolution and success of our social enterprise, and has potential to evolve and grow with you.

ABOUT THE ROLE

In this unique role, Hospitality Employment Mentors will be working 1:1 with trainees in an employment setting that is new to them. This mentorship model is designed to help the trainee successfully transition into the workplace and to build the essential skills required for their new role.

The primary goal of the Employment Mentor is to provide guidance and support as the trainee adapts to both the tasks and dynamics of their new environment. The Employment Mentor is expected to be hands-on in their approach and support the delivery of tasks, while the trainee develops their confidence and independence in the new role.

The Employment Mentor will play a crucial role in helping the trainee build positive relationships with new colleagues, offering advice on communication, teamwork, and professional conduct. By providing consistent feedback, encouragement, and hands-on support, the Employment Mentor will help ease any anxieties the trainee may have and facilitate their overall professional growth.

Finally, the Employment Mentor will act as a liaison between the trainee, the employer, and the Employment Partnerships Manager, ensuring that both the trainee's needs and the employer’s expectations are met, while fostering a sense of inclusion and belonging within the workplace. Ultimately, the goal of the Employment Mentor is to help the trainee become a confident and independent member of the team, who is valued by their new workplace.

  • Support trainees to be engaged, focused, calm, and working to their best capacity.
