You will oversee the organisation’s financial operations, ensuring compliance, strong governance, and continuous improvement of financial policies, systems, and reporting.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will lead a small team, manage budgets, statutory reporting, payroll, and risk controls while driving efficiencies and financial best practice.

Each day, you can expect to:

  • Lead all aspects of the day-to-day management of a finance team including:
    • Overseeing all financial operations
    • Budget preparation and management,
    • Optimising treasury activities
    • Delivering precise, detailed & timely financial reporting.
    • Ensuring timely acquittals to funding bodies
    • Managing payroll
    • Maintaining rigorous taxation and statutory compliance.
  • Develop and present the quarterly Finance Report to the Board, providing clarity and strategic insights.
  • Partner closely with the Senior Finance Officer to oversee, deliver and enhance all statutory and internal financial reporting processes.
  • Analyse, streamline, and implement best practice for procedures that govern the deliverables of the finance team, driving efficiency and accuracy.
  • Champion ongoing improvements in finance processes and systems to establish and maintain robust internal controls that mitigate risks.
  • Spearhead the design and enhancement of internal financial reports, including dynamic monthly dashboards for the Executive Team and the broader organisation, fostering informed decision-making.

Who Are We Looking For?

You are a highly skilled and motivated individual with a thorough understanding of the cultural, social, and historical needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

You must be CA or CPA-qualified with a proven track record in financial control and management, your recent professional experience will demonstrate:

  • Expert knowledge developing, managing and analysing budgets, cash flow, and financial forecasts to support decision-making in a medium or large organisation.
  • Deep expertise in financial compliance, reporting, controls & management
  • A track record of successfully preparing and interpreting financial statements, statutory accounts and management reports in accordance with AASB.
  • Experience driving process improvements and managing financial risks will set you apart.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate & manage an experienced finance team with strong capability.
  • Working knowledge and expertise overseeing payroll processing, salary packaging, and compliance with Fair Work and Superannuation Guarantee obligations
  • Experience managing government grants, funding agreements, and financial reporting for non-profits would be highly desirable.
