The role

Reporting into the Cubby House Coordinator, this role is responsible for managing the operations of the Cubby House at the Melbourne Children’s Court. The Cubby House is a safe waiting room for children visiting the court, majority of whom are in protective care of the Department Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH).

We have a 0.8 part time role contracted until May 2025 and a casual position vacant. These positions are formally based at Melbourne Children’s Court; however, flexibility is required to operate from the Broadmeadow Children’s Court if needed.

Responsibilities

  • Providing a safe space for children and young people attending the Children’s Court
  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the Cubby House
  • Taking the initiative to make improvements and enhance the performance of the Cubby House
  • Completing appropriate, relevant case notes in a timely manner
  • Forming and maintaining strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders e.g. DFFH Child Protection staff

Experience required

  • Experience working with children and families, preferably those involved with Child Protection (essential).
  • A qualification in Youth Work or equivalent discipline, or study towards this qualification (desirable).
  • Experience engaging with traumatised children and young people and manage a range of complex behaviours (essential).
  • Capacity to work in a complex court environment
  • An understanding of social welfare and policy environments
