  • Remuneration: Officer 6 in the AMWU salary structure ($113,620.23)
  • Contract: Fixed term contract from May 2025 to October 2027
  • Hours: 38 hours per week
  • Status: Full-time
  • Location: AMWU Branch offices in NSW, Queensland and Western Australia 

The AMWU represents workers across a diverse range of manufacturing industries, including food and confectionery, metal and engineering, printing, design and packaging, technical, supervisory and administrative roles, and vehicle building, service, and repair.

We are seeking highly motivated Project Officers to support the delivery of an initiative aimed at increasing the recruitment and retention of women in trade and technology careers, to be located in Sydney (NSW officer), Brisbane (QLD officer) and Perth (WA/SA/TAS officer).

The roles will focus on driving meaningful change by improving workplace cultures and structures that currently act as barriers to women entering and staying in trade and tech careers.  The successful candidates will play a key role in ensuring the project is effectively implemented and delivers tangible outcomes.

This is a national project funded by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, where Project Officers will work within a team across multiple States. Some regional and interstate travel will be required. Project Officers will report to the National Project Co-ordinator and their Branch Secretaries.

Salary is aligned with AMWU Officer Level 6. 

Responsibilities:

  • Establish partnerships with companies to implement programs that improve the recruitment and retention of women in trades and technology roles.
  • Develop training and promotional materials to support workplace culture improvements.
  • Coordinate the delivery of training programs, in partnership with TAFEs, to upskill women into apprenticeships and technology careers.
  • Connect women jobseekers with employment opportunities through partner companies.
  • Manage the project budget and provide accurate expenditure reports.
  • Provide regular progress reports to the project Steering Committee, Project Coordinator and State Secretary.
  • Work collaboratively with AMWU Officials, workplace representatives, management, VET stakeholders, and schools to promote career pathways and employment opportunities for women in trades.

Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Project Management – demonstrated experience in project management, including planning, budgeting, execution, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Organisation and Prioritisation – demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision and prioritise workload to achieve team objectives within set timeframes.
  • Verbal and Written Communication – excellent verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to build relationships with multiple project stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Management – builds and sustains positive working relationships with AMWU members and project stakeholders.
  • Problem Solving – demonstrated problem solving skills and initiative.
  • Computer skills – a good working knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint programs.
  • Driver’s License – there will be some regional and interstate travel required. 
  • A genuine commitment to Trade Unionism is essential.

Desirable

  • Experience working in the manufacturing, construction, technology or clean energy industries.
  • Experience as a union delegate, HSR or official.
  • Understanding of trade careers, including vocational education and training pathways.
  • Working with Children Check (WWCC) or ability to gain one.
