The Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union (AMWU) is a union of workers from diverse industries and occupations – campaigning for economic, industrial and social justice.
We are looking for an energetic and dedicated person to be part of our mission to build and enforce high standards in industries we cover, and to help ensure that all members can be fairly heard.
The AMWU WA Branch is looking to employ an Industrial Officer on a 12-month full-time contract with potential for permanency.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to;
- Providing industrial and employment advice to members, delegates and officials;
- Providing strategic advice on industrial campaigns;
- Representing members in the Fair Work Commission, Western Australian Industrial Relations Commission and Courts;
- Internal education on changing industrial relations contexts
- Preparing matters for litigation in court and tribunal hearings; and
- Preparing submissions for relevant inquiries.
Law graduates are encouraged to apply.
Skills and attributes required:
- Demonstrated commitment to trade union values;
- Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience (law or industrial relations);
- Ability to understand, break down, and clearly explain legal information to different audiences;
- Ability to work with and support delegates, members and union officials;
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and without supervision; and
- Ability to work well under pressure and manage a varied caseload.
Desirable / Useful:
- Representation experience
- Familiarity with working environments in resource, construction and manufacturing industries
- Legislative interpretation
