Your role and the program:

Housing First is an innovative new program providing young people leaving care with the opportunity to transition to independent living. Our case managers will work with young people to stabilise their housing, build independent living skills and set themselves up for a better tomorrow.

You will be focusing on developing the skills and capabilities of young people. Housing First empowers young people to participate in planning and to exercise agency, to the greatest extent possible, over decisions that impact them, promoting self-management and self-determination.

Key responsibilities include;

  • Direct casework with young people to support their transition to independent living.
  • Case management responsibilities.
  • Relating innovative solutions in a new and developing program.
  • Building and working in partnership with Better Futures, Leaving Care and Housing providers across the state.
  • Building a relationship with the young person whilst in residential care for up to 6 months prior to their transition to Housing First housing.
  • Assessment and planning.

The skills you will need to support young people in the program:

  • A relevant tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology, welfare or related discipline and experience.
  • A trauma informed practice lens.
  • A person-centred approach, which supports the young person to make and be responsible for their own informed life choices.
  • Tailors support to the needs of the young person.
  • The ability to assist young people to transition from care to (supported) independence through the establishment of safe, stable, and secure housing and support.
  • An ability to provide a case management service in complex family circumstances where multiple service providers may be involved.
  • Sound skills in assessment and planning.
  • The position requires outreach to clients at multiple locations which will require travel across the region.

Make it work:

  • Part time, permanent position.
  • 0.7, 26.6 hours per week.
  • Salary in line with SCAHDS level 5 starting at $97,377 plus super (pro rata this to part time hours)
  • Salary packaging is available up to $15,900 plus a Meals/Entertainment benefit so you keep more of what you earn.
  • This role is based at our Bendigo office.
