The Program:

The Navigator Program is a targeted education support service whereby case managers work with young people, their families, and schools, to enable them to achieve their educational goals. It is a support service rather than a teaching service.

The young person is assigned a case manager and they work together in a place that suits the young person – at home, at school or at a café.

Case managers help to identify and utilise the young person’s strengths and skills to make school a more positive experience.

They provide coaching and mentoring to enhance the young person’s wellbeing and develop resilience, self-efficacy, and social skills.

Case managers work with the young person, their family, carers, and school to reduce or remove the barriers that prohibit school attendance.

Once the young person is back attending school, they are monitored to ensure sustained engagement.

About the role:

We are currently looking for experienced case managers, with expertise supporting disengaged children and their families, to work with our Navigator program - an innovative, research-informed program that assists disengaged learners to re-connect back into education and learning.

You will primarily be working with children who have disconnected from school. You will help these children identify their skills & interests and alleviate barriers to their participation in education alongside their parents/carers. You will work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team, comprising of a Team Leader, Intake and Assessment Workers, Senior Case Managers and other youth services programs. 

The skills you will use day to day:

  • Your extensive case management experience, drawing from a variety of appropriate frameworks and theoretical approaches, working with children, families and/or significant others in relation to school engagement matters.
  • Successfully build rapport with children and young people, who present with a range of complex challenges, and to work towards client goals together achieving successful outcomes.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, negotiation and liaison skills and the ability to work with government and non-government organisations, community groups and clients’ families/networks.
  • Knowledge of school environments and educational policy

What you need to know:

  • A salary at SCHADS level 5 which equates to around $94,000 plus super at full time.
  • Flexible through the increments up to 5.3 (dependent upon experience)
  • 19 hours per week, please reach out for details.

  • Site based at our office in Bendigo with outreach across the region.
