Make your mark:

Using a team approach, the Parenting Assessment and Skills Development Practitioner will:

  • Work effectively as part of an integrated multi-disciplinary team, made up of a range of programs from within the family support services area.
  • Provide specialist assessment and reports in relation to vulnerable infants and young children that focus on their health, development, safety and wellbeing.
  • Work in line with the Parenting Assessment & Skills Development Service (PASDS) intense short term program requirements with families.
  • Undertake comprehensive in home or day stay parenting capacity assessments, that focus on the strength’s skills and abilities of the parent and /or infant caregiver.
  • Work from a strength -based approach to assertively engage and develop genuine connection with families and /or caregivers involved with DFFH, child protection program and whose children are considered to be at risk in their care.
  • Undertake a holistic assessment of the parent and/or caregivers’ capacity to provide for the safety and wellbeing for their infant, identifying strengths, areas for development and/or concern and being transparent about these with families.
  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholders, such as DFFH Child Protection, Maternal Child Health , Family Preservation programs and Family Support services.
  • Required to travel extensively throughout the Mallee Region.

Make it work:

  • Significant experience to provide quality service delivery with the intention of reducing the re-occurrence of child abuse and/or neglect, and infants entering Out of Home Care.
  • Significant experience in promoting family self-sufficiency and reduce the need for further Child Protection intervention through skill development coaching that builds parenting capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience in promoting and engaging in relationship with Aboriginal organisations and aboriginal families that promote culture as a safety for infants and families.
  • Demonstrated experience in undertaking assessment of infants and their parent/caregivers including, information gathering, observation, analysis, planning with an overall focus on increasing safety.
  • Excellent understanding of child protection, placement and support service systems, including legislative and policy framework.
  • Experience in  the application of relevant theoretical approaches that underpin practice with vulnerable high-risk infants (including theories of child attachment, development and abuse)

Qualifications:

A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Early Childhood Specialist and/or related behavioural sciences at degree level with experience; post graduate qualification; associate diploma with substantial experience; attained through previous appointments, service and/or study with combination of experience, expertise, and competence sufficient to perform the duties required at this level.

  • Salary starts at around $106,000 plus super plus salary packaging (Level 6 SCHADS) at full time.
  • Full time , 5 days per week, fixed term position until 31st January 2026.
