The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF) is Australia’s largest union representing the professional, industrial and political interests of nurses and midwives with more than 326,000 members nationally.

The ACT Branch of the ANMF is looking to recruit an Organiser to support our growing ACT membership through building union in the workplace, developing and supporting Workplace Delegates and pursing the continuous growth of our member base.

About the Role

Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement workplace organising and campaign-related advocacy activities
  • Identify potential new membership and growth areas and organise new delegate structures in nominated workplaces consistent with the Branch plans
  • Strengthen existing membership and associated structure through structured site visits by building union in the workplace
  • Assist with and support the development of publications, flyers, bulletins, posters, social media content and other campaign materials
  • Assist with the delivery and review of education, learning and training plans to Workplace Delegates, with an emphasis on communication to motivate and engage members in specific activities related to campaigns and membership growth, and
  • Provide limited industrial and professional advice to members in the workplace.

Selection Criteria

  • High level/well developed communication, influencing, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate at senior levels.
  • Demonstrated analytical and research skills and experience in the preparation of high-level reports and/or policies.
  • The ability to work autonomously as well as in a team with an ability to meet deadlines and manage several deadlines simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of unionism.

Highly Regarded

  • Recent professional Nursing and/or Midwifery practice
  • Relevant qualifications and experience e.g. Health policy, education
  • Recent Union Organiser experience
