The Myanmar Campaign Network (MCN) is a network of Australian human rights and aid NGOs, trade unions and Myanmar diaspora organisations working to support the campaign for democracy in Myanmar.

Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA supports the MCN and is the auspicing organisation and employer for the campaign role that works with MCN.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Campaign Coordinator is responsible for working with and assisting the Myanmar diaspora community organisations and Australian civil society organisations to plan, coordinate and deliver human rights campaigns and advocacy towards civilian rule in Myanmar.

The Campaign Coordinator assists in building and maintaining an Australian campaign including lobbying, media and movement coordination to drive policy change primarily aimed at Australian government policy.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the development and implementation of compelling campaign strategies and tactics that support campaign goals and objectives on making democracy in Myanmar a priority;
  • Provide strategic campaign and communications advice and support to organisations, advocates, and community groups to run high impact campaigns that achieve results;
  • Facilitate relevant research, analysis, and strategic scanning to inform campaigns;
  • Drive policy advocacy, strategically navigating the public and policy debates, and contribute to educating movement allies about the problems, solutions, opportunities, and threats;
  • Proactively support the development of a more informed, effective, cohesive and powerful network of groups and people working to drive action on democracy in Myanmar including amongst Myanmar Campaign Network member organisations;
  • Build and maintain strong and trusting relationships with the Myanmar diaspora communities and work to assist coordinated advocacy amongst diaspora groups;
  • Maintain regular communications with other international Myanmar campaign groups for coordination of global campaigning priorities and strategies
  • Represent Myanmar campaigns and human rights research to decision makers, influencers, media and public forums
  • Evaluate project and campaign outcomes and make recommendations for greater impact and effectiveness
  • Other tasks within skills and competence as required

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential:

  • Demonstrated experience in leading strategic campaigns, including unpaid, grassroots, or lived experience, or other relevant transferable skills and experience;
  • Proven ability to analyse power and develop, implement and evaluate focused interventions to achieve real world change;
  • Experience advocating for policy reform, including engaging with governments;
  • Excellent verbal, written and visual communications skills with a strong ability to build engagement with a diverse range of stakeholders and audiences;
  • Well-developed interpersonal, collaboration, facilitation, and relationship building skills;
  • Ability to stay abreast of a rapidly shifting policy context and leverage campaign opportunities;
  • Demonstrated ability to work across teams and allies on cross cutting issues to identify and support opportunities for collective action;
  • Knowledge of the current political, human rights, humanitarian and social movement context of Myanmar, its ethnic states and border communities.
  • A passion for human rights and social justice.

REPORTS TO:

National Manager, Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA

FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

Member organisations of the Myanmar Campaign Network, APHEDA International Organiser, Myanmar.

OTHER TERMS:

  • This position will involve some domestic travel
  • Full time, fixed term 12 months, possibility of ongoing employment
  • Terms and conditions of employment are as per the Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA Enterprise Agreement, which includes 15% superannuation, salary packaging is available and family- friendly conditions.
  • Gross full time salary of $102,266 p.a.
  • Additional leave for Xmas-New Year shutdown period.
  • Work rights in Australia is a requirement of this position.
