Arafmi Ltd is a leading Not-For-Profit community-based organisation providing support for families, carers and people with a mental health issue or psychosocial disability. Commencing as a family and carer support service in Brisbane in 1977, Arafmi has gone on to provide a broad range of services to support people experiencing mental ill health and their families, carers and friends for over 40yrs across Queensland.  

Arafmi is a currently registered provider with the NDIS and our support services include:

  • Accommodation Support Services,
  • Individual Personal Support Services
  • Group and Mutual Self-Help and Support for persons living with severe and persistent, and severe and episodic mental illness
  • Family and carer support groups, and telephone support
  • Family and carer - one on one support for carers
  • Education for families and carers
  • 24/7 Family and Carer Peer telephone support service
  • 24/7 Information and referral service

As such, Arafmi is able to offer a range of casual employment options and opportunities.  Depending on the service requirements the following working and support arrangements may be offered and available

  • Support people in their own home 
  • Support families in their own home to have a break from their caring role
  • Support people to access social, recreational and community activities
  • Supporting and delivering centre based activities
  • Supporting and delivering groups and activities
  • Provide both short and along term accommodation support (this may involve evenings, sleepovers, and/or weekend shifts and working on public holidays)
  • Flexible work arrangements including some regular rostered shifts, capacity to pick up extra work at short notice and provide longer term fixed backfill for annual and personal leave.

About the role

Arafmi Ltd are looking for people that have previous working experience and a sound understanding of mental health all with a commitment to making a difference to both the lives of people living with mental health issues, their family and carers.

There are a range of employment options available within the emerging NDIS service space, some of the key areas of responsibilities are below:

  • Provide the necessary practical and emotional support to people with a lived experience of psychosocial disability accordingly to NDIS plans and personal life goals and objectives
  • Meet the needs of people with a lived experience of psychosocial disability in a manner that preserves their dignity and privacy and is appropriate to their ongoing needs
  • To participate in assessment and review of the individual needs of people with a lived experience of psychosocial disability, families and carers
  • Assist people with a lived experience of psychosocial disability to develop and/or expand their social relationships and networks in the local community

As a Not-For-Profit organisation Arafmi offers attractive salary packaging arrangements. 

The position are casuals however opportunity exist for these positions to be transition to permeant positions into the future.

Skills and experience

Demonstrated experience and skills in working with people with psychosocial disability and their carers

Highly desirable Certificate IV/III level qualification in Community Services and or / mental health

Knowledge and understanding of the issues pertaining to psychosocial disability

Experience in delivering planned support for individuals

Demonstrated confidence and resilience to respond appropriately in emergent situations.

Ability to perform tasks associated within the community environment

If this role is for you we will also require the following;

  • Ability to work flexible working hours (mornings, evening, sleepovers, weekends, public holidays) 
  • A Current driver's licence and access to use of personal motor vehicle
  • All employees must consent to Criminal History Screening/Police check
  • Yellow/Blue Card
  • Completion of NDIS Worker Orientation Module 

Please note the role is a casual role up to a maximum of 38 hours per week.
