Job Description

Part time, two-year fixed term role.

Working with the General Manager, Quality, Safety and Practice, this exciting role will assist with the ongoing establishment of Positive Behavioural Support service at Araluen. With supervision support from an advanced practitioner, this position is responsible for working with participants, families and support networks to provide positive behaviour support to participants, conducting functional behaviour assessments and behaviour support plans.

This position may develop into an Advanced Practitioner role providing Positive Behaviour Supports at Araluen.

Desired Skills and Experience

Tasks & capabilities

  • Working under general direction indicative tasks may include but not limited to:
  • Develop a learning log, outlining the path required to become an Advanced Practitioner including registration with the NDIA.
  • Attend supervision sessions with an Advanced Practitioner to further develop professionally.
  • Work with participants and their support networks to complete functional behaviour assessments and interim or comprehensive behaviour support plans.
  • Through discussions and observations with participants, their family/carer/guardian and support workers, identify:
    • Any unmet needs the participant has
    • The function and purpose of their behaviours
    • Any existing strategies to address those behaviours
  • Provide specialist training to the implementing provider in the implementation of a participants behaviour support plan including all support strategies and the use of regulated restrictive practices.
  • Review practices of the implementing provider to ensure they are following the prescribed behaviour support plan and are aware of their responsibilities regarding reducing or elimination restrictive practices and the authorisation of behaviour support plans

Capabilities

  • Has a keen interest in positive behaviour support and how it can improve the lives of participants.
  • Willing to learn new skills and provide training to other staff
  • Understanding and experience in providing Positive Behaviour supports in a NDIS setting.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation and how it applies to restrictive practices.
  • Outstanding communication skills to work alongside with participants, families and support staff and provide training around behaviour support strategies.
  • Supports the use of new technology and develops skills to master new technologies.
  • Comply with all Araluen policies, procedures and practices and all applicable laws and industrial agreements that govern our business and conduct and seek clarification where needed.
