Located in Alice Springs, Arid Lands Environment Centre (ALEC) is Central Australia’s peak environmental organisation, defending Australia’s iconic desert country for more than 40 years.
After a 13 year career with ALEC, our CEO is moving on and we are seeking a person to lead this dynamic, influential and progressive organisation.

We work with partners across vast landscapes to deliver solutions to the ecological challenges we face. We understand the importance of knowledge, science, research, education and engaging the community on the issues that matter.
ALEC (https://alec.org.au) is a diverse organisation, with key major projects focusing on safe climate, a clean energy future, protecting country, driving desert sustainability and is part of the Alice Springs Future Grid. ALEC also encompasses the Arid Edge Environmental Services (https://aridedge.com.au) providing expert environmental service and design solutions to build more sustainable communities.
Reporting to the Board, the ALEC CEO is responsible for the development of the organisation aligned with the strategic plan. This includes overall coordination of all ALEC activities and programs, representation of ALEC in the public sphere, to government and the media, to members and volunteers. The ALEC CEO is also responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day management of ALEC, management of staff, financial and office administration management.
The new CEO will be an experienced and proven leader and manager, who is passionate about the sustainability and protection of Australia’s arid lands and people. Their background may be in government and/or environmental organisations. They will be able to demonstrate a track record of successfully leading culturally inclusive and collaborative organisations and teams. Experience developing and implementing strategies, policies and procedures. The new CEO will also have strong advocacy, organisational and project management skills and experience in the not-for-profit sector and with regulatory compliance and Work Health & Safety obligations.
