The Australian Services Union (ASU) is a member-led, progressive union. We are one of the largest unions in Australia and have achieved record membership growth in recent years.

The ASU represents workers in local government, energy, disability and community services, finance, call centres, airlines, legal and private sector administration.

An Industrial Officer position is available with the SA + NT Branch. This is a permanent, full time position based in Adelaide. The current salary range is $89,838 - $101,834 depending on skills and experience.

This position also offers:

  • A fully maintained vehicle
  • Flexible work arrangements are available, with the ability to work regularly from home
  • 12 RDOs per year
  • 4 weeks annual leave per year
  • 17.5% leave loading
  • 3 additional Grace days over Christmas / New Years
  • Generous Superannuation arrangements, with additional employer contributions of up to 4.5% in excess of the Superannuation Guarantee

The successful applicant will contribute to the Union’s work by

  • Improving workplace conditions and defending the entitlements of ASU members
  • Providing advice to ASU members regarding individual and collective industrial matters
  • Preparing and running matters in the South Australian Employment Tribunal, Fair Work Commission, Courts, the Human Rights Commission and other tribunals
  • Participating in industrial and technical research for workplace, industry and cross union campaigns

This position is ideally suited to applicants who hold a Bachelor of Law or similar tertiary qualification, however new graduates and those nearing completion of studies are also encouraged to apply.

We are looking for applicants with

  • Knowledge of the Australian industrial scene and ability to use legislation, Awards and Agreements to enforce members’ rights and entitlements
  • Experience in advocacy, negotiation, dispute resolution and grievance handling
  • The ability to manage members’ expectations
  • The ability to work autonomously, work to deadlines and manage competing priorities
  • A willingness to participate in the union’s broader political and social justice agenda
