The establishment of the National Redress Scheme for Institutional Child Sexual Abuse (the Scheme) was recommended by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. The Scheme is intended to acknowledge people who experienced child sexual abuse in an institutional setting and to recognise past wrongs.
Duties and responsibilities
The Client Services and Research Coordinator assists and supports the Northern Territory (NT) Redress Coordination Team in the provision of services to support the Scheme.
This includes:
- Coordinate the request for information process for the Scheme’s NT Group ensuring research and data collection is conducted in a highly confidential manner and within strict timeframes.
- Provide best practice training, advice, and support regarding trauma informed care strategies, with a focus on reducing the impact of vicarious trauma in an environment in which staff and key stakeholders are at risk of occupational trauma.
- Support eligible survivors to access high quality counselling and psychological care and direct personal responses.
- Collect and report on both qualitative and quantitative data relating to operation of the Scheme within the NT.
- Support the ongoing operations of the Scheme through developing, reviewing, and maintaining practices and procedures and contributing to policy development as required.
- Maintain and support collaborative relationships with the Scheme Operator, stakeholder groups, government agencies and non-government organisations.
- Provide assistance and support to other staff of the unit, as required.
Position requirements
- A degree or equivalent qualification in psychology, social work, mental health nursing, law or associated field.
- Knowledge of, or experience with the National Redress Scheme is highly desirable.
Key selection criteria
- Demonstrated experience of culturally appropriate practices when working with vulnerable cohorts, including survivors of complex trauma and people from diverse backgrounds.
- Well-developed communication skills, both written and oral, including report writing, the ability to liaise effectively with varied audiences, demonstrate sensitivity and professional discretion, and maintain high levels of confidentiality.
- Demonstrated experience of trauma informed care and vicarious trauma, interpersonal skills required to facilitate effective engagement with and sound understanding of principles of delivering of training to stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team in a pressured and sensitive environment.
- Demonstrated computer literacy skill including experience in various office applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and mainframe packages including databases.
