Selection will be made at the SC or SSC level depending on the experience/qualifications of the successful applicant.

Katherine Hospital is seeking an experienced Anaesthetist to provide a regular specialist presence and participate in the on-call roster. This fractional appointment is ideal for FANZCA applicants on a part-time basis, unless holding other Fellowships or working across other hospital departments.

About the Role

You will play a critical role in delivering high-quality anaesthetic care in a dynamic rural setting with a diverse patient population. On-call duties involve Obstetric anaesthesia and support to Emergency Department for airway management, procedural sedation, and critical care.

About Katherine Hospital

Katherine Hospital is a 60-bed facility that services the Big Rivers Region, which covers a geographical area larger than Victoria. It provides care to a diverse population, including a significant proportion of Indigenous patients from remote communities and cattle stations. The hospital is known for its strong focus on rural and remote healthcare and offers an excellent environment for medical professionals seeking diverse and challenging cases.

The hospital supports almost 300 births per year, including an epidural service for obstetric anaesthetic skills maintenance. Regular outreach visits from General Surgeons, ENT, Ophthalmology, and Dental specialists enhance access to surgical expertise. With two theatres in operation, running 2-4 elective theatre lists per week.

Remuneration

  • Full-time remuneration package: $452,475 – $617, 551* + superannuation + shift penalty rates + on-call allowance
  • Base salary $213,380 – $298,705
  • Professional development allowance: $22,251 - $29,670
  • Regional/remote attraction allowance: $29,670
  • Regional/remote Retention allowance payable after 12 months service: $37,807
  • Private Practice Allowance: $106,690 - $149,352
  • ^Senior Specialist Attraction Allowance: $29,670
  • ^Applicable to SMO2.1-2.3 only
