About the role

The Youth Justice Family Led Decision Making (YJFLDM) Specialist will effectively deliver an accountable, effective and culturally strong service to reduce the disproportionate representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people involved with the Youth Justice system. The YJFLDM Specialist will provide independent support to families when children and young people are at risk of entering or already involved with Youth Justice. YJFLDM Specialist will facilitate Family Led Decision Making meetings with the goal of increasing safety for the young person and family and reducing offending.

Duties

  • Engage with children, young people, families, elders, community, and stakeholders with the goal of reducing offending and increasing safety.
  • Provide high quality case management practices and meet case performance targets.
  • Empower and deliver culturally appropriate supports to young people and their families through targeted interventions.
  • Be a conduit and ‘lead case worker’ role for Youth Justice matters that involve the young person and family being supported.
  • Lead the direct integration with the Family Support System and internal ATSICHS services.

Desired Skills and Experience

COVID-19 Requirement

  • Immunisation history showing you have received two doses of a Covid -19 vaccine is encouraged.

Required

  • Current Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Social Science, Health, Allied Health, Youth Work, Community Services, Family Intervention or Criminology with 4 years’ relevant experience in family support, child protection, youth support or related field.

OR

  • Current Diploma in Community Services, Social Work, Human Services, Child and Family, Allied Health, Youth Work, Child and Family Intervention with 5 years’ relevant experience in family support, child protection, youth support or related field.

AND

With at least 3 years of abovementioned experience in a case management role.

  • Demonstrated ability to meet client performance targets.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a high level of practice judgement when working with clients that are involved with the Child Protection system.
  • Ability to work with a culturally and socially diverse group of clients, and to apply a culturally responsive framework to guide interventions, with the support of staff and management.
  • Demonstrated ability to record accurate and consistent case notes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a minimum of direction and to effectively communicate with and work collaboratively as part of a team, and to contribute to the development of creative and innovative services.
  • Demonstrated experience in overseeing and coordinating case management processes and procedures. 
  • A willingness to travel across the ATSICHS Brisbane and Logan region of services and work across different sites.
  • A willingness to provide social work supports and engagement to vulnerable populations. 
  • Working with Children’s Card (Blue Card) or be eligible to apply.
  • Current Driver's Licence.
  • Valid Police Check.

Preferred

  • Brief intervention counselling skills.
  • Previous experience in a family support and or advocacy role.
