About the Organisation
Aurukun Shire Council (ASC) is an Indigenous community with a population of around 1400 people. Council provides a variety of services to the community that include provision of education, health, community, and welfare services; operation of airport, postal and bank agencies; development and maintenance of roads and housing. Funding is received through both State and Federal governments.
About the Role
Reporting to the Child Care Centre Manager, the Group Leader will coordinate activities programs, manage and report on designated age group in accordance with the Centre’s policies.
Key Accountabilities
- Coordination of the activities of a group of children
- General supervision of workers at the Centre and providing mentorship and guidance to educators and trainees
- General supervision of workers at the Centre
- Assisting in the centre’s administrative functions
- Ensure that a developmentally appropriate program is planned and implemented for each child
- Assess the needs of each child and monitor the child’s progress
- Maintain effective communication with a parent/guardian of each child in the group
- Administer First Aid to level of competency when appropriate
- Ensure that the requirements of Aurukun Shire Council are met.
Qualifications, Skills and Attributes
- Must hold a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (or equivalent).
- Adequate experience in an early childcare centre
- Knowledge of the developmental needs of children and appropriate program delivery.
- Experience or the ability to obtain an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, with the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Indigenous people, a knowledge of Aboriginal culture and customs would be an advantage
- Capacity to demonstrate a high level of commitment to interact positively in a remote Aboriginal community.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, independently and as part of a team to achieve positive outcomes.
- Current First Aid and Resuscitation Certificate/s HLTAID004.
- Manual Driver’s License.
- Current Blue Card.
- Safe food handling Certificate.
- Willingness to undertake professional development to support professional growth in early childhood and leadership.
