They provide services, help, support, up-to-date information, and guidance to the Australian Community in English and 26 other languages. They build capacity, enable individuals to overcome challenges, and empower people to change their lives through our supporting programs.

Their support covers all the different needs that arise in all life stages, from young mums with babies, to the marginalised, the elderly, people with disability and everyone in between.

This permanent full-time position will be based in Sydney, New South Wales.

About the role

Community Development Coordinator (CDC) is responsible for planning, organising, leading, and training programs and project teams to achieve high-performance and quality outcomes that align with the organisation’s strategic priorities, services, and initiatives. The CDC will be working with teams of Interns across states.

Position summary

The role will focus on building the community engagement department that promotes a sense of community on-site, at service and client locations.

This role may also involve facilitating innovative programs and events, providing advisory support to other departments regarding community engagement, and collaborating with external stakeholders.

  • A drive for results makes things happen, proactive and balances "analysis" with "doing"; Willingness and ability to “roll up the sleeves’ and assist in getting the work done with a “can do” attitude.
  • Led and managed portfolios containing multiple projects and cross-teams of varying sizes.
  • Oversee the delivery of programs and services, some of which may require integration with other activities outside the scope of a specific program or portfolio area.
  • Lead program coordination from end-to-end: propose program ideas based on community interest, plan activities, coordinate facilitators, venues, and participants, oversee budgets and program delivery, conduct evaluations, and summarise program outcomes.
  • Design and operationalise and manage special projects and special projects staff as required.
  • Develop and implement best practice youth participation models and practice standards that amplify the voices and develop the leadership skills of multicultural young people, women, senior Australians and people with a disability.
  • Be a ‘Practice Leader’ working to provide innovation, learning and consistent and quality practice in our client’s engagement and empowerment of young people, women, senior Australians and people with a disability.
  • Develop and maintain internal and external relationships that contribute to achieving program area and organisational success.
  • Provide proactive leadership and people management.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with the ability to recommend process improvements for efficiency and effectiveness gains.
  • Collaborate with community members and partner organisations to plan and participate in community engagement strategies.
  • As required, represent the organisation at community events, network meetings, and other community-led initiatives and events.

Qualifications and experience requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in social work, social science, welfare, or a related discipline
  • Previous three (3) years of experience in the same role.
  • Proven ability to lead community engagement initiatives that result in positive outcomes.
  • Be experienced in working with individuals who have multiple complex needs.
  • Ideally, case management experience and have a working knowledge of navigating the often-convoluted external services.
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Current Police Check
  • Current driver’s licence
