The Australia-Pacific Partnerships Platform (The Partnerships Platform) is looking for motivated and skilled professionals who are keen to make a difference. We seek passionate staff who work collaboratively to deliver ideas and advice that can help our Pacific Island Country partners meet their governance and stability goals.

The Partnerships Platform is seeking an experienced and motivated Communications and Public Affairs Specialist with a proven track record of handling high profile media requests, public communications and the international media, as well as capacity building. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, respectful, flexible and resilient Communications and Public Affairs Specialist with a keen focus on the Office of the Prime Minister’s media and communications strategies support Tuvalu’s national priorities and its vision for a peaceful, resilient and prosperous Tuvalu.

The Office of the Prime Minister is responsible for the advancement of national wellbeing priorities through policy advocacy both domestically and abroad, including improving public sector management and performance. Through its National Strategy Te Kete, the Office of the Prime Minister ensures good governance, accountability and transparent practices are strengthened as imperative prerequisites to a peaceful and prosperous Tuvalu.

The areas of focus of the assignment are:

  • Office of the Prime Minister’s media, social media and other communications outputs are of a high quality, timely and aligned with relevant strategies, plans and messaging.
  • Contribute to international and national media engagement, including coordinating government responses to media inquiries and drafting of media releases and ensuring staff are briefed and prepared.
  • Assist the Office of the Secretary to Government in preparing and editing high level communications.
  • Coordinate input from relevant Government of Tuvalu policy, strategic and operational areas into communications and media engagement.
  • Support the development of quality and timely government communications, including social media and communications materials such as fact sheets, policy briefs, specific campaigns and other content as required.
  • Build the capacity of relevant local public affairs team and other local counterparts as advised and identified by the Government of Tuvalu.

The position is advertised for an Immediate start, for up to 6 months with an option to extend. A competitive international standard remuneration package will be offered to the successful candidate, including housing, and return airfares if required for international candidates.

The Australia-Pacific Partnerships Platform is an Australian Government initiative funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and managed by DT Global. It provides Pacific Countries with a suite of flexible, fit-for-purpose options that support broad governance and stability development outcomes.

About the Office of the Prime Minister

For this role the Partnerships Platform is partnering with the Office of the Prime Minister, Government of Tuvalu. The Office of the Prime Minister is responsible for the advancement of national wellbeing priorities through policy advocacy both domestically and abroad, including improving public sector management and performance.

About You

We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate a high degree of flexibility, respect, resilience and adaptability, and a preparedness to work with limited resources in a challenging environment, this includes the ability to successfully build and manage relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.

To be successful in this role, you will have tertiary qualifications in communications, public affairs, journalism or a related discipline, with proven experience in development media engagement and media training and/or briefings for government personnel. Including demonstrated knowledge of Designing strategic communications materials for a range of audiences. Experience in journalism and working in Tuvalu will be highly valued.

You will be required to demonstrate a strong understanding of, and commitment to Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI), child protection and the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH), anti-corruption and other DFAT safeguarding policies.
